Thanks Teresa I did thnk that may be the case with my Granny's birth a midwife of sorts another name to look out for though.
I know she lived in the Lane they later lived in.
So it was strange to reg. a death so late. I wonder if they didn't have the money to pay for it to be reg.
If he had been poorly perhaps that was the reason.
A long time wasn't it.
Oh did they do postmortems wonder if it was something to do with that. It says under cause of death no med atten.
Thanks
Germaine

Hi Germaine

There might have been a reason for registering the death so long after it happened..but I haven't come across anything like that with any of my Irish.

As for your grandmother's birth being registered by an unknow lady...it could be a midwife or relative that you don't know about yet.

I found one member of my family with an 'unknown' lady registering the birth but I have since found out that it was the childs grandmother!

Some others have been registered by auntys too who were present at the birth.

Just got my G Grandfathers death cert. I have noticed that is was 6 months before the death was reg.died 26th March 1905 reg 11 Oct 1905.
Was this the norm or would there be a reason.
He died at home of TB duration 3 month then it says no med atten.
Does this mean the poor man suffered so long without a doctor.

Also my Grandmothers birth cert. reg by a lady present at birth would this perhaps be the midwife or similar it says present at birth.
Anyone any thoughts please.
Seems unusual but were things different over there.
Germaine
