Hi could anyone help me please? How do i go about finding any info about someone who was placed in an orphange? I know the person's name and their parents names and i know he was born in the cheshire area but i have no idea which orphanage. I would like to know more for example why he was placed there and when etc...
Thanks

Hi Hannah

Without knowing the children's home it could be like looking for a needle in a haystack..

Depending also on the dates you are talking about the records may still be confidential or only available to the person concerned..

You could try googling for childrens homes in that area and don't forget to contact the local archives, they should be able to give you a few pointers. also they may perhaps point you in the direction of the local authority.

There was Styal Cottage Homes in Styal Cheshire. That was once an Orphanage. Its now a womens prison. If you want information from there you have to write to:

Children, Families and Social Care,
3rd Floor,
Victoria Mill,
Miles Platting,
Manchester, M40 7SH.

Hope this helps
