Thanks for the info.

This is the 2nd recorded marriage for Robert and Mary. They had also been married the day before at Our Lady's RC Chapel, Lydiate. From what I can gather this wasn't unusual. Roman Catholics were allowed to marry in their own church, but for it to be legal they also had to marry in a COE.

Other children are:
Richard born at Altcar, 26 July 1833, baptised 28 July at Our Lady's RC Lydiate
Ann born at Aughton, 4 Oct 1835, baptised at St Mary's RC Chapel, Aughton the same day.
Helen born Aughton, 17 Dec 1837, baptised at St Mary's the same day d. March 1838.
Helen born Aughton, 21 Jan 1838, baptised at St Mary's the next day d. Sept 1844.
Mary born Melling 14 June 1841, baptised at St Mary's the next day.

I also believe that although Mary was listed as resident of Halsall, she was born in Altcar the illegitemate daughter of Isabella Stopforth (or Stopford as it was sometimes spelt).

Robert was one of six children born to Richard Swift and Ellen Alcock. Richard is buried in St Mary's RC Churchyard, Little Crosby.

Kind Regards and many thanks for the information.

John and Pauline.

Pauline/John,
Patricia may not be using the boards any more as the posting is more than 3 years old, and she does not appear to have replied.
You could try and reach her directly by clicking on her name and sending a message, and if genes has her current email address they can contact her.
(You are not meant to post your actual email address on here, so it would probably be best to delete it)
Have you looked in the Search trees above to see if anyone else shares the same ancestors?
Have you got Mary and Robert in your tree so others can contact you?

I cannot believe that I've not seen this connection before!

Robert Swift and Mary Stopforth are my g-g-g-grandparents.

I have managed to go back one more generation, but given the time span between your initial post and this reply, you may be even further back than me.

I researched the family at Preston several years ago and came up with 11 children many baptised at St Mary's Chapel, Aughton. Some of the children died very young and the names where repeated. My line descends via the surviving Ann Swift (who by chance married John Swift).

I'd love to share our information.

Kind Regards

John
