When the father of the groom has died b4 the marriage is/was it not usual for him to be noted as deceased on the cert and his occupation not shown?
Would there be any exceptions to that?
I have a very convoluted query but a straight forward answer to this might clear the matter up
Thanks

In my experience, the fathers were not necessarily shown as deceased even if they were.

This is probably not what you wanted to hear! :-))

My certificates where father is deceased still show what he did but it depends what information was asked for/given

Don't think you'll find a straightforward answer! In most cases I've come across if father is deceased it "usually" says he's deceased. However, even my mother - when she gave her father's details at her wedding, seemed to forget to mention that he had died - when she was 4 years old! So, long and short is - it depends!

If there is a blank where father and occupation should be chances are child is illegitimate.

But, when child is illegitimate they quite often "invent" a father. That's happened on at least two of mine!

Happy hunting!

Wish it was that clear and easy but Sadly I have Deceased, No name or Occ, Deceased, name and Occ. and Name and Occ but not mentioning he had already died which lead me on a long frustrating search.

It depends on how the questions were posed.........if the bride/groom were asked 'Father's name? Father's occupation?' and they didn't volunteer the info that he was deceased, and weren't asked the specific question, the fact would not be recorded.

In my own case, the registrar asked for my father's details.....and I supplied the info that he was dead.......so that fact is recorded on my marriage cert.........

There are so many possible variations of the info presented on a marriage cert..........

Both my husband's father & my father were deceased when I married 27 years ago, this is not recorded on my marriage certificate.

I have plenty of certs where the father was deceased and no note is made at all, just a straight line across the entry.
