I have very little information, he was called Arthur Walker, and brother of my Gt Grandfather George Walker who was born in 1908 in Cockermouth Cumberland. The family later turned up in Anthorne Cumberland, so assume he was born around that time and either born in Cockermouth or there. His father was also called George Walker. I have checked the CWGC website to no avail, anyone got any other ideas? Thanks.

Fathers Name is George Walker, dont know about mothers yet, was only given this info this afternoon so havnt had chance to look yet. Arthur would have been born too late to be on census' I presume and I cant find a birth record for him.

This may be his father?

1901 England Census

Estimated Birth Year: abt 1881

Father's Name: Tom
Mother's Name: Sarah Ann
Gender: Male
Where born: Cockermouth, Cumberland, England

But I have no way of knowing until I get my gt grandfathers birth certificate.

I have found his sister:

Name: Ruby Walker
Year of Registration: 1910
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Cockermouth

I cant see that he could be this one:

Name: WALKER, ARTHUR
Initials: A
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Flight Lieutenant (Nav.)
Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Unit Text: 12 Sqdn.
Age: 31
Date of Death: 17/12/1943
Service No: 85276
Additional information: Son of Joseph and Annie Walker, of Whitehaven; husband of Jean Walker, of Darlington Co. Durham.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Ward 5. Sec. O. Grave 390.
Cemetery: WHITEHAVEN CEMETERY

The fathers name is wrong, and also if he was killed by the japanese I presume his body would be in this country.

I guess you don't know his full name.

This one at the CWGC site would fit the details of his death:

Name: WALKER, ARTHUR CECIL CAESAR
Initials: A C C
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Aircraftman 1st Class
Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Date of Death: 29/11/1943
Service No: 1190515
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Column 429.
Memorial: SINGAPORE MEMORIAL

He's the only one whose father's name doesn't rule him out ... because there isn't a father's name.

That specific name doesn't show up in the GRO births index.

The details given here don't fit with the ones you have, so that probably rules that one out:

http://www.roll-of-honour.org.uk/Java_Index/html/w_database_14.htm

"Sunk by USS Bonefish, off Kangean Islands 6º 22' South by 116º 35' East. Japanese Captain Kawano orders the shooting of the prisoners in the water. From 14.15 – 16.30 the Minesweeper W.12 massacres the survivors using machine gun and rifles. No survivors."

And this one fits the details, but wrong parents:

http://www.roll-of-honour.org.uk/Thailand-Burma_Railway/W/html/wa_database_15.htm

Japanese POW
Died Age: 24
Date of Death: 1943/11/16
Place of Death: Thailand-Burma Railway
Cause of Death:
Source: CWGC
Loved Ones: Son of Percy and Rose Ellen Walker, of Lavenham, Suffolk.

I wonder whether errors occur in relationship details ...

If Arthur was a middle name that he went by:

http://www.roll-of-honour.org.uk/Thailand-Burma_Railway/W/html/wa_database_22.htm

Japanese POW
Died Age: 22
Date of Death: 1943/06/08
Place of Death: Thailand-Burma Railway
Cause of Death:
Source: CWGC

No parents' names, but would seem a little too young.

Best wait for that birth cert so you can at least find his birth and thus mother's name and age!
