Thanks Janet

Purnells are my wife's family and I still have (seems like) hundreds to checkout!
Keep searching, you will find things from the most unexpected places!

You don't need to tell me how much of a problem it is. My Mum's maiden surname was Smith....My Dad's was Brown. When I got married for the second time, it was to another 'Brown'. Family history is a bit of a nightmare !

My Browns (some with an 'e') are from Kent and Suffolk areas. My Hubby's are from Grimsby and Shropshire.

Thanks to you all for your encouragement! By the way Mike, I know a Purnell maybe she's one of your relatives!

Tell me about it! Trying to trace Stephensons in Newcastle upon Tyne or Purnells in Bristol is very challenging! Do not give up,the ancestors will find you when they want to be found!

cheers

I know the feeling, I am also looking up the Brown/Lloyd Family's, they are from Suffolk.
If you have at least one with all a lot of the information, work backwards from that. See what other relatives (not named Brown) are in the same area. Let me know if I can help

If you want to research their history, you will have to start with at least one birth cert, to find out the full names of the parents.

I am looking for Brown family who originally came from Bromley-by Bow/Poplar and then moved to Dagenham in Essex. I have quite a lot of names etc. but because the name is so common and they were born in 1920's onwards, they weren't on the 1901 census. Can anyone give me any advice please?
