Hi Gwyn

This was an entry on the main ones as used for ordering at GRO. 1949

I'm foxed !! Found what I think is a birth a year later with correct surname and mother's maiden name as if the marriage happened!!!

Do you mean in parish registers?

I have seen this when sometimes the vicar / clerk filled in the book in readiness but the marriage did not take place.

One of the saddest such entries had an added note that the groom had been killed in the 1st World War so never returned in time to marry his soon-to-be bride.

Please could anyone suggest why a marriage entry would have a line drawn through it and there no correction at the bottom of the page.
thanks
