When you go to search army records at Kew do you need to 'book'

No you dont have to book. if you find a ref and the original is available you have to order it up from the archives and this can take up to 1 hr to come up,depending on how busy it is, There arent any original WW1 records you can view .if they did survive they would be on microfiche and you can download a copy from that
You do need a readers ticket to go in and this can be obtained on the day in the reception area .you do need proof of identity tho. check out the website for info.
