So when you look at records and theres a page number and ref what does that mean??????? and can you actually get birth certifactes???

If you mean Birth index on Ancestry, FreeBMD, etc, you can get birth certs from the GRO on line by quoting the year, quarter, district, vol No and page no.

The website address is:-

www.gro.gov.uk/content/certificates

The certificates will cost you £7 for standard delivery. When the online form asks you "Is the Full GRO Reference Known?" make sure you tick the yes box. If you leave it on "no" they will charge you more.
