As his mother was a widow she could well be regarded as 'dependant' give the TNA a call (the man who'll know is William Spencer - if he's on duty) see what the experts say. The book mentioned above doesn't say anything about it.

I have all the information on his death, when he died date and everything, also the report in the Durham paper when his mother received his DCM. Also a picture of his grave and everything.

The reason I ask is as his mother was a widow and I just didn't know if parent got a pension if their son was killed in WW1 with her being a widow and everything.

Umm not sure the info I have from 'Army Service Records of the First World War' - A publication I'd recommend.

the Amry would endeavour to ensure that his estate and certain personal effects were returned to the next of kin (in this case his mother)

But Pensions were only paid to widows (he wasn't married) and dependants (usually children) but it doesn't say anything about parents - who could well have been dependant on their son (but the rules may have been different during WW1). The reference to check at Kew is PIN 26 19821-19853 which are listed by dependant name.

Give the TNA a call 020 8876 3444 and ask them if mothers were regarded as dependents in Army pension terms during WW1. Ask to speak to one of the military experts.

If a young man unmarried dies in WW1 and mother receives his DCM would a pension be paid to his mother.
