how can only 1 person marry?

Can anyone find an explanation for this oddity?

I requested a marriage cert for Alice Garside and Frank Thompson Q4 1924 in Salford

I have had a partial refund from the GRO and a message saying that the names are not at the reference I gave them. I checked I'd not made a mistake...
Looking under Alice Garside she clearly marries a thompson ref 8d 248

Looking under Thompson and having waded through may pages (why do all my ancestors have common names?!) I can find no trace.... Checked all the thompsons in case Frank was second name or used as short for something still no luck.
I still want the cert, but obviously not if it doesn't exist!!!
Any suggestions?

Hi,

I have checked the reference and Alice Garside married SAMUEL Thompson on that reference !!

P.S. - I have Garside's in Salford - perhaps we connect?

Hmm.
Cant remember what made me think he was called Frank? I guess she married a samuel. Maybe it was samuel frank?

Thanks for solving for me- you'd think the GRO would kind of guess....?

Dea- tell me about your Garsides. Alice was born 1905 she was my g grandmother. I have not gone any further up the line- was waiting for teh marriage cert to get her father name so that I could use teh census etc. If you think there may be a link I can fill in for you down the generations...

Hi,

I don't know if we will connect but I am willing to try to link them up.

What else do you have on Alice - did she have any brothers or sisters born after 1912? - If so, we could trace her mother's maiden name and link them back through the census's?

Perhaps you already have this on her birth certificate?

Birth cert should be enough to work forward at this stage - Let me know the details when it arrives.

I haven't been on this site for a while and can't work out how to find the new posts on a thread - I don't seem to receive notifications any more.

I will try to pm you my e-mail address - send me the details through there if I don't reply through here.
