It does seem a very big place compared with GR but you do get used to it and there is a fantastic WIKI - compilation of reference materials and links.

Oh and you can block the signatures Peter if you go into your user tools tab at the top of the page there. Go to edit options and then down to display and turn them off :)

I agree that it seems an unnecessarily elaborate procedure to get from the homepage into the discussion boards. Also I am amazed by the disproportionate space allocated to overlarge signatures; some of them flash as irritatingly as the ads on this page. However, the quality of the genealogical discussion on FTF is generally high.

Does anyone else have problems finding their way around FTF. I've tried a few times but just seem to go around in circles.
