Quite often, quarters appear to be missing from Ancestry's BMD's. They're not actually missing, but instead are attached to one of the other quarters for that year. Here's a step by step guide to help you find the quarter you're searching for.

1: Click on closest quarter to the one you want. Example: If you're looking for A/M/J 1940, click on J/F/M.

2: You'll notice above the scanned images, typing that reads: You are here.....search.......BMD......1940.......J/F/M. Click on 1940.

3: The 4 quarters will appear. Click on A/M/J.

4: The alphabet will appear. Click on the initial of the surname you want.

5: You'll notice on the tool bar of the Ancestry viewer, a small box that reads eg: 1 of 86 images. Instead of scanning all 86 pages, you can skip through by typing in page 43 and clicking the "Go" button.

I found the "missing" quarter by searching for a name a little bit earlier in the alphabet than the one I wanted and just paging through to the right page.

I was searching for Whittingham births in 1890, but only three quarters (J-M, J-S and O-D) came up on the complete ancestry index. I then searched on White for the A-J quarter of 1890 and by using the next page arrow, was able to find the Whittingham page.
