Freereg has been available since about Sept 2006. They opened to different areas at different times presumably so they wouldnt be initially overloaded with searches . Have you tried the link to Freereg straight from the homepage of Freebmd.

FreeReg appears to have some 2.7 million records transcribed. I have just done a search and found the site functioning.

this sister site to freebmd and freecen can prove to be an excellent source of parish records.
not all counties/ places are on-line but it will help many researchers.
