Were they going to marry in church?

I have seen banns, where the vicar has added a note saying that the groom was killed in the war, so no marriage took place.

Lets hope its Pickmere! Owen would be a smith in Wales wouldnt it.

Al has already given you the CWGC list but I have to be frank and wonder whether that could just be a romantic tale for your dad that his mum gave.

When you say rumours abound - from whom/where/why - that source is what you have to seek out - where did these names comes from?

I had a quick look at the CWGC site using names Pickmere, Owen, Lloyd, Thomas and looked for combinations of all but nothing jumped out.

I am not 'up' on recent baptisms but if your father was baptised maybe the vicar put a helpful note in the margin of the register? Certainly in times past it was quite common for a vicar to name a reputed father but whether it happened in the 1940s I don't know.

Might be worth investigating.

Trying to trace paternal Grandfather with little info, big challenge if anyone can help?
Finally traced my dad after 30years with the kind help of people from Gr site. Now trying to trace his father as unfortunately, he knows very little either about his own father.
All I have is the following info - Born approx 1920s, lived in Montgomeryshire Wales. Have no names, but rumurs were abound that he may have been a Pickmere or Owen???? Was planning on marrying my Grandmother in August 1941, however died at war in the RAF. My dad was told he got shot down, but dont know rank. As Grandmother was pregnant by then, know that he was alive until approx March 1941 as would fit with dates. Unfortunately there are no living family members for us to get any more info from so this is it. Said was big challenge? Anybody got any ideas? For the record, have got dads b/c, no father listed and have checked census and found a family pickmere living in Llanfair Caerceinion, wales, but obviously no sign of any potential grandfather yet. Any ideas very welcome. Thanks
Ps Father has names Lloyd and Trevor so may give insight if Grandmother used his name. Cheers
