Help with finding relative who emigrated to New Yo

Member Since: January 2006 Posts: 17 Send Message	I have found out that My g grandfather took the SS Majestic from Liverpool to New York in 1903, His destination was stated as Providence, Rhode Island & he had a ticket to that destination. 	You will need to join Ancestry.com to search for him in 1910/20/30 census. OR you can provide all his details and we might be able to help.

Member Since: January 2006 Posts: 17 Send Message	I have all the details from the passenger lists but it does not give a full destination address. His name was John Edward Platt, b 1872 in Oldham, sailed on SS Majestic 8/7/1903 from Liverpool, arrived in new York 16/7/1903. He had a ticket for his destination which was Providence, Rhode island and he was joining a friend (no name). It would be brilliant if you could find anything for me - I don't want to pay for Ancestry if I can help it if there isn't much information. Thanks for your help Michele

	I searched for John Platt 1871-1873 England I cannot find him anywhere except on the arrivals. The only one which shows is:- John W Platt Susie San Francisco, San Francisco, California abt 1872 England White Head and he is in every census including the 1901

	On the Ellis Island site it says who he is going to join but it's hard to read. (Julia?) Wm. Fell?, Ho. ? Manville, Rhode Island. It says John is age 30, born Oldham, married, a farm overlooker. Was his mother's maiden name Andrews, by any chance? Marg

	Did he leave a wife behind in England? The 1901 census shows him as married but no wife with him, he's living with his mother. Free BMD shows a marriage of John Edward Platt and Martha Taylor in 1896, Oldham, then there's a Martha Platt on the 1901 census who's married but living with her parents, the Taylors. She also has a 3 yr. old son Sydney Platt. Marg

Member Since: January 2006 Posts: 17 Send Message	Margaret That's right - John Edward married my g. grandmother Martha then they seperated shortly after Sydney was born and she raised him herself with her family. John Edward went to live with his mother then it looks as though he emigrated in 1903 - nobody knows anything after that. Her surname was Taylor It's really difficult to read the details on the passenger list but my guesses were similar to yours - none of them make any sense though!
