Hi
I seem to have lost a family member for a 20 year period.
His name was John Butler born 22 Oct 1836 Bramley Leeds West Yorkshire.
I have him in 1841 age 5 living with his Parents Samuel and Hannah Butler and his Brothers Samuel and Thomas.
I also have him in 1851 age 14 with his parents and brothers Samuel, Thomas and Benjamin.
Then he vanishes 1861 and 1871 only to reappear in 1881 married and living with his step daughter and her family in Bradford West Yorkshire.
I do know that he married Bridgett Scanlon (who was born in Co Sligo) in March 1878 in Stanningley Leeds. Both were living in Stanningley.
I have Bridgett and her daughter Mary on the census records from 1861 and 1871 living in Bradford. Mary was born 1855 no father's name given.
So where oh where has john gone!!

I have a similar problem to this. Mine is Joseph Harpin born Bradford c1867 but he doesnt appear on any census until 1891 when he is a lodger in Hartlepool. To top it all off I dont seem to be able to locate a birth certificate for him or a death cert even though I know his dod.

It could possibly be that there was no one at home on the night the census was done. Have you tried looking for his parents in 1861 and 1871?
