How old were they when they married? How do you know David's fathers name and occupation if you aren't sure where they married?

David Davies b1823 in Abergwilly Carmarthen and Sophia Thomas b1821in Llanllawddog Carmarthen were married in 1845 in Abergwilly - I think.. On their marriage entry David's father was John Davies- Occupation: Butcher.(given to me by a fourth cousin) I have no knowledge of David's mother. I am guessing when John Davies was born in 1798 working on the theory he was twenty five when David was born.
I cannot find John Davies-Butcher anywhere.
Can anyone help please?
