Thanks Sylvia

I have Phyllis Eliza's birth cert (she is my wife's gggrandmother) but you see the problem I have with the spellings. You can also see why I need the 1861 census - I am beginning to wonder if there are missing pages for Barking. Also all the later info I have shows Caroline younger than Richard - as the birth you quote is in Tendring and the ones either side are Romford I am dubious (without the cert)....But if they got a ship in 1862 they must be somewhere in 1861.

can't see them at all!

BTW.

I found the births on www.freebmd.org.uk .......... a free site that has all the registrations since they started in Septemebr 1837 to ca 1920/25 at the moment. Volunteers are inputting the information from the GRO registers, so it is a work in progress.

You should be able to find your births on there.

Peterkinz Report 11 Oct 2007 03:02

In 1851 Sarah Nicol -1820 St George London(Nichol/Nickells) is living in Barking with children Elizabeth S-1843, Martha-1848 and Phyllis Eliza-1850. Husband Richard-1810 is absent - he is a fisherman so not surprising.

On 26 June 1862 the family comprising Richard Nicol, Sarah and children Martha, Phyllis, Richard, Ann and Caroline sailed from London (?Gravesend) on the Romulus bound for New Zealand.
Later information suggests that Martha was b c 56(second one?), Richard-53, Ann-52 and Caroline-51. To find their births I need them in the 1861 census - but try as I may I can't locate them. Any bright ideas welcome ....
PLEASE!!!
Peter
