Have been doing this for 3 - 4 years, can't remember exactly when I first started - but have literally hundreds of certs.

I know last year I tried to do a rough calculation of what it had cost me at that point (for certs, various online subscriptions, mags, books etc) and it was somewhere in the region of £2000, which is quite a scary thought - but then I don't smoke/drink/gamble etc and family history is my little pleasure in life!

Dont want to think about it - 4 or 5 years,2 albums full of certs - only 2 duff ones in all that time, thank gawd, plus subs, cds, books, look ups, plus getting fat sitting on a puter. Still worth every penny and Im sure cheaper than a bottle of wine a week.

Nine months, several tanks of diesel going from south London to the National Archives at Kew, trips to the Hertforshire Records Office and a village called Offley near Hitchin where a huge branch of the tree are from, Family Tree Maker, and so far about 10 certs!

We've got off lightly it seems!

Over about 10 yrs, probably quite a bit. I have maybe 30 English certs, and another dozen or so NZ ones. Then there is the cost of ordering films through the LDS of censuses and parish records etc. Used to be $2.50 I think but is now $4.50 and I must have looked at 50 or more of them. The cost of being a paid member of this site for the last 3 or 4 yrs. Lots of photocopying to send info to relatives.
Assume $20 per cert, that is $600 for Enlish ones, $240 for NZ ones. Average for films of say $3 = $150. Total at least $1000 I would say, or $100 per yr on average.

Searching your family.

How much has it cost you so far?

How many years?
