Girl's Name Asheway or Ashey

Asheway or Ashey crops up as a girl's name several times in my tree, the first one being Asheway Pool born in Muston, Yorkshire in 1778. Asheway's father John Pool was a witness to the marriage of Asheway Halder and John Stephenson in Muston. There are very few Asheways on any of the usual genealogy sites but I have found them in the Halder, Stephenson, Dawson and Jowsey families in Yorkshire. I'm sure the families must be connected somehow because it's such an unusal name. I've been in contact with some lovely people on this site but none of us know of a link. Does anyone else have Asheway/Asheys in their tree or know where the name originates? |
