Thank you, I think there is a good chance that this may be my GG grandad. It is interesting that there is also a Martha Lawrence aged 15 years old from Wanborough - who has the same name as Jacobs wife (see marys reply above) who may have been there grandma.

I missed this one as Ancestry has him transcribed as James Lamance.

This could well be the one. Shrivenham is only 5 miles from Wanborough where James was born.

I hoped that I would find a match on the census reports or something but not found anything yet.

I have been stuck with my LAWERENCE branch and in an attempt to kick start it I yesterday received a marriage cert for my GG grandad, James Lawrence and Henrietta Nockolds.

They were married in Great Yarmouth in Oct 1888 and I am unable to read the name of James father. It looks at first glance like Meshach Abidriege Lawrence.

James was born c1864 in Wanborough, Wiltshire (according to 1891 &1901 census). I haven't been able to trace his birth either.

If anyone could give me any advise to get further I would be very greatful.
