Re-setting Home Person in Tree

Thanks, Linda

I can't imagine why they don't have the facility. It seems to be in every other program.

By the way, I would have to contact GR every time I upload (I do all my research and notes on Ancestry) and I'm still awaiting replies to queries made months ago.

Thanks, anyway

Jackie

Yes, that is what I'm looking at. OK, I'll live with it until the next time I upload. I'll try changing the Home Person then and see what happens.

I did try to delete the person in my GR Tree that GR had chosen but it told me I couldn't delete myself!

Thanks ever so much for your help, though. And you, too, Sue

Jacqueline just contact GR and ask them to change it for you. Much easier. Wish they had the same facility as Ancestry it's so simple to change it on there.

Jacqueline, as i said you are looking at the Gedcom as a coded peice of text (Computer jargon) You Have opened it using somthing like Wordpad, what you are seeing is normal, Unless you are a computer programer then I would not alter any of the gedcom as you will mess up your tree.

this is a sample of what you can see?

Thanks Roy.

The problem seems to be that either I am not down as Number one person in the Gedcom file or, if I am, I am not being recognised as such.

Can I find out if the file is wrong and edit it?

By the way, it does work correctly sometimes.

Jacqueline, What you are viewing is the gedcom File in its coded state, You will be about Halfway down in the file but when you use a family tree program to open it you will be down as the number one/tree owner/Home Person on the tree

Hi, Sue

I have had a look at the Gedcom file but there are lots of numbers and letters but none that seems to me to designate person number 1.
As listed, I am about a third-way down the list and the relative GR has designated is further down still.
The file originally came from Ancestry.co.uk where I am the Home Person and I have also tried it through Roots Magic where I did have to re-set me as the Home Person in the first instance.
It's not a mammoth problem, just irritating. If you can offer any help I would be very grateful.

Sometimes when I upload a Gedcom file into GR, I cease to be the Home Person. At the moment the Home Person is an ancestress of different name and born in 1738. I find this disconcerting - I don't feel that old.
Does anyone know how to re-set this, please?
It is no use asking GR - I am still awaiting replies to queries submitted several months ago. This page solved those problems within hours - thank you.
