So glad I had a bright idea. They happen occasionally. I was just going to suggest two c as an option, but not needed now.

Tried it and it works. Now all I have to do is to find all the entries I was trying to input yesterday and change the font/capitals for them.

Could you use Roman numerals for one of them, eg II for 2 (hmmm, with this script it looks like 11). Or a capital letter, such as in vol 2C instead of 2c.

I note you agree but does anyone know how to override this when inputting on my FTM tree as I can't add 2 sources with the same numbers for different people. I hope this makes sense.

I am only having a prob when I try and put the source details on FTM and I get blocked from entering them!!

Is there any possibility of any entry having the same ref number.
For example I have a relative b in 1879 and BMD gives the ref no as Vol 2c and page 297 which is the same as a birth record for another relative in 1908!!!
