Being buried the following day.
I have someone died in Florida in 1941 died 7.30pm on the Thursday buried 4pm Fri.
Would this be the norm in in 1941 or could it be a religious thing.
I don't know what his religion was. He was English emigrated to USA I can''t find his birth on IGI nor his parents marriage so have no idea of their religion.
The funeral home that was used sounds to be a Jewish firm but have no idea if he was Jewish or not.
Anyone any idea please.

It could be a religious thing, but not necessarily. My grandmother died in 1931. She died 4th June and was buried 6th June. I know that's two days, but I still thought it was a bit quick. There was no obvious reason for the burial being so quick.

We are trying to figure out why he and his wife if they ever married!! left it so late and until they left UK.
both in their 40's but we don't know when they took up together either.
It looks like they were estranged when he died.
Thought maybe if he turned out to be Jewish this would solve a mystery.

The Jewish faith I believe bury their dead before their sabbath, which is a Saturday.
I seem to remember that their funerals took place before sunset on the Friday.

Thanks Joan and Lynda it does seem to lead to the idea that maybe he was Jewish. That could be why they didn't marry in UK if at all .
Right mystery this one they went to USA in 1923 both single by 1929 she was calling hersef Mrs Musgrave though we haven't been able yet to find a marriage. They look like they were estranged when they died he 1941 she 1951 and are both buried though the same memorial park in different sections.

Think I might mail the memorial park again and see if the section they are in have different religions there.Bet they are fed up with me :-))
Just seemed very quick to me.
Didn't know how different things were in those days.

Will do Linda it is one thing after another with these two. Why they din't marry of if they did why leave it till left UK and till they were well into their forties.
Religion does seem one answer.

Hi Gerri. No he went with her son first she followed a few month later. We don't know how long they were together before but pretty sure he wasn't her sons father. Though no idea yet who was.
His address when he left UK was her address down as a friend!!.

In England burials usually happened 5-10 days after the death - we could get away with that in this climate. But my research has shown that countries like Australia and USA have a quicker burial - usually 1-3 days.

Yes, Susan, I was going to say if it was summer the quicker the better if you want to save on the cost of embalming or refrigerating or whatever until you decide to bury them. Otherwise they could be a bit high.

Well i am none the wiser on the religion seemingly they didn't have different sections.
Never mind will have to carry on searching.

The answer from the cemetery.

Some section have religious names but is only the section name, anyone could be buried there no matter what religion they are.

Can't really help but it's very intriguing isn't it?

Have you found them on the 1901 census? What age were they when they emigrated? If you can give a bit more info perhaps someone else can find some more info about his/her parents?

(I've often given up and then some kind soul on here comes back with loads of info I couldn't find!)

We have him on and before the 1901 census and his family but can't find them on the IGI.
Hence trying to find out what religion he was.
His death cert told us we had the right John.
Just trying to fathom if they were married and if not why not.
Thinking that maybe religion was the reason they may not have married. She did call herself Mrs but a year before he died she was down as a widow ( we think to save face as she worked with children)
That is another mystery we can't find a marriage and from what we have found they were seperated when he died.
He travelled to USA with her son, they were both in their 40's, she followed a couple of months later.
We are pretty sure he wasn't the father of her son.
They are each buried in seperate sections of the same cemetery.
So in a nut shell am trying to figure out if they were different religions hence seperate graves. Thus no marriage.
Oh yes this journey ahs had it's fair share of mysteries every time we solve one another crops up but it ahs been an interesting journey.

Huia Susan sorry hadn't thought about that, that could well ahve been the reason it was June so could have been hot.
So could have been nothing more than the hot weather as to why the burial was so soon.
