Kate and AH
No email from syndicate as yet. Really disappointed. Should I now try the Freereg site as I am really keen to get going.

Dont forget another wonderful band of volunteers, bless them, are working on freereg for pre 1837 bmd - I just love the site, Ive added dozens of bmd for my Norfolk ancestors from there.

I did have a go at transcribing but the person who ran the syndicate I was on took forever to get back to me and never explained to me properly how to fill out the form on the program or what to do with unclear characters.

I'm thinking of having another go with a different syndicate but haven't had chance to get round to it yet.

Have downloaded WinBMD but can't see BMDverify.
Will I get this when I get the email?

AH
Thank you. I'm worried now after reading the rules page that I might do something wrong but I'm willing to give it a go.
Will download the 2 progs you said I need and wait to be contacted tomorrow.
Thanks again.

Dammit that's the second time I've hit to edit and it's deleted a post. *sighs*

Faith, it really depends on the syndicate, where they're based and how frequently their admin checks their email. I'm with freeloaders, they're in oz so we're at opposite ends of the day.

Just looked on the home page for BMD and think I'll give it a go.
It'll be nice to give something back.
Thanks to those who suggested it.

How do we get started!!

I'm currently transcribing 1926 marriages for FreeBMD so we are moving on quickly.

Just had a quick look and I've found 2 more family members marriage details.
Regarding doing some transcribing I wouldn't mind but unsure how it works. Is it something you can do at home. LOL

You can access the coverage charts from the home page to see how far they've got.

Capricorn,

I agree entirely about the volunteers, I use freebmd all the time, my 1st port of call when I get a new name , very user friendly and more up to date than the partial one on Ancestry as I believe they take their info from Freebmd.

I have over the years found some mis transciptions, but when i`ve submitted them for change they`re usually corrected within a couple of weeks.

An excellent site.

I'll have a look.

It was very limited post about 1890 before - has this really changed dramatically? Thanks.

Has anyone noticed Freebmd updated yesterday, some entries now up to 1930s.
