I don't know what area of Scotland he's from, I'm doing this tree as a favour for a friend and she didn't even know there was a Scottish link.

I found 14 Thomas Spence born between 1887 and 1889,

How did you find him then? Glad its sorted out anyway.

Where was he born in Scotland?? There are no Thomas CUMPSTY born in Scotland between 1887 and 1889. And there are 14 Thomas Spence born during this period.

Mhairi, I know about Scotlandspeople (about all I do know), but as this is likely to be the only scottish bmd I need looked up, I thought I'd ask on here rather than spend out on credits I don't need.

Paula, interestingly, his father is called David Spence but I already have them on the 1891 and 1901 census in Lancaster, that's how I know that Thomas was born in Scotland.

Thomas's parents were David Spence and Mary Jane Cumpsty, so it's possible that the Cumpsty you found may be related in some way to Mary... I've not yet looked into her. I've been hunting for David and Thomas first.

Hey there

You need the website www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Its a pay per view site, costing £6 for 30 credits, but you are able to view the certs online, print them, save them ect.

Hi could, someone please do a look up in Scotland for me. I have no idea what to do when it comes to anywhere outside of England lol and it's likely to be just this one guy.

His name is Thomas Cumpsty Spence born c.1888, parents David Spence and Mary Jane Cumpsty.
