I am quite a novice with geneology. I have a fair bit of success by "Great Aunt Alice" is a difficullt one to crack.

She was born Alice Wise in 1867. I have tracked her down to the 1891 census when she disappears.

As far as I can ascertain she has not got married - but she was alive and well as I have photos of her up to the 1920s

Can anyone offer advice on how I can go forward.

What was her birthplace, and where was she in 1891? (I'm presuming you mean you have her up to 1891 and not 1991 as in your post).

Alice was born in 1867 in Chiswick, Strand on the Green.

Yes, I meant 1891 - some of our family are long livers but this ridululous - ha!

What evidence do you have for thinking she didn't marry?

There are quite a few marriages for the name Alice Wise at about the time you would expect her to marry.

There are also quite a lot of married Alice's on the 1901 census with a birth year of around 1867 and born Chiswick.

Could you be mistaken about her being single?

I do have her birth certificate and you are quite right Witchypoo that is the lady in question.

She also appears as a servant in Fingest, Oxon in 1881 and as a servant in Barnes in 1891 - as Alice Wise, a Cook.

She IS just a plain Alice Wise.

I did go through the GRO reference at the library and when I check referenced them there seemed a big descepency in their ages

I have sent off for the WALDRON, ALLOWAY, WISE marriage in Brentford - 1901. I will let you know how I get on.
