Help with a pre-1837 birth/christening/marriage pl

Mary Ann Bradshaw Ashton (surname Ashton) was my hubby's gggm, born c 1822 in Lancaster. I can't find a birth or christening anywhere, or her whereabouts in 1841 except as a possible patient in the Preston House of Recovery as Mary Ann Bradshaw.

Until recently I thought her mother was Mary Rawlinson, but I now believe I am wrong.

Thanks to advice on this website, I've found the christenings of John BA 1820 and Thomas BA 1822 on lan-opc, also the burial of their mother Jane in 1831. I've also found the christenings of Elizabeth Ann BA 1829 and Jane (no Bradshaw) 1939 on IGI. By then the father Hugh Ashton has remarried, so perhaps that's why the Bradshaw was dropped.

But not a sign of Mary Ann.

I believe her parents are Hugh and Jane Ashton. Guessing that Jane was previously Bradshaw, I have looked for a marriage on IGI and lan-opc without success.

The children were all christened at St Mary's, Lancaster, and Jane Ashton (mother) is buried there.

Can anyone help find Mary Ann's christening or her parent's marriage?

Margaret

Dear Joan, it would seem this is the right person, confirms my belief that her mother was Jane, father Hugh Ashton.

Why couldn't I find this myself? I am not used to IGI, only got Old Crone's advice to go on, have you searched in a different way? Or is she actually listed as Mary Ann Bradshaw (not Ashton?).

Well, this seems to be her, so thanks.

Any further help gratefully accepted. I've been hunting for her for ages!

Joan, I think I must have restricted my search to +/- 2 years - MISTAKE, cos I have now found the record, many thanks, little doubt it is the right person, given the parents, the unusual name, and the church.

Now I want the marriage of Hugh Ashton and Jane Bradshaw? first child christened 1820 (that I have found). Offf to look!

Very pleased to have cleared this up.

Hi Margaret
The IGI is really useful...
Glad you found the record.
I actually used the 'children of'' search...you put parents' names on far right hand side...can be very useful..
Good hunting
Joan
