Hi,
We have come to a brick wall wrt Hannah Williams (my paternal GGmother)who was born in Tredegar around 1875, based upon the marriage cert and census records. However, we cannot find the birth, we even went to Cymbran and went through the parish records for both Tredegar and Ebbw vale for the period 1870 to 1880 but to no avail.

We have tried searching births with parent of David (mentioned on marriage cert) for the period as well.

Any suggestions as to how we can find this birth?

We need more info.

When did she marry and what was her father's occupation?

Can you list her details in 1901?

Birth registration was not compulsory until 1875................she may not have been registered

Thats interesting Lynne, as my great gran is from very near there, and doesnt appear to have a cert. (1890 birth apparently).

Hi all, Rose thanks for the prompt, did not expect such a flurry of responses:) Hannah was married 11 May 1893 in Bedwellty, father david's occupation limestone breaker (same as Benjamin Pritchard's her husband). In answer to reggie, I cannot find any trace of hannah prior to the wedding on any census in Wales or England.

On 1901 census, they are living at 7 Penmark, Tredegar and her place of birth is shown as Monmouth Tredegar.

In 1891 at 5 Penmark there was an age 70 Hannah williams, living at 7 was Benjamin's father, also Benjamin.cannot link these Hannahs but seems coincidence, perhaps her Gmther.

Much appreciate your interest, this is my first time and Wow!
