Thanks so much Jim - you are a star!

Lots of leads for me to follow up. Ididn't think of using the wild card like that I was just trying loads of different spellings manually - duh!

Thanks Jacquie, I have tried a few differnet variations of spelling but I'm sure I'm probably missing some. It looks like I must have missed BrittEn because Jim managed to find a marriage record for me!

Jim may have it - BrittEN. Try more variations.

Thanks Jim - that looks right. Why on earth couldn't I find it. Could I ask where you found it?

If I send for that certificate it should give me both of there father's names - is that correct?

Hello, Andrea.
My first thought was that maybe their name was misspelt on census - but I expect you've tried variations like Brittain.

Will have another think....

Hi,
Can anyone help me please?

My Grandmother Lilian Louise Brittin was born on 15 March 1905 in Holbourn, South Clerkenwell.

Her father was Herbert Walter Brittin (named on her Marriage certificate) and I have been told by a family member that her mother was Sarah Ann Brittin (nee Adams).

I have no date or place of birth for Sarah but she and Herbert Walter Brittin were living at 92 Rotherfield St, Islington in 1913.

My grandmother (Lilian) had an elder sister Betty (Elizabeth) born in 1903, then sister Wyn, brother Bert, sister Florrie (Florence), sister Alice and finally brother Harry (possibly Henry)

I cannot find any census records for Herbert Walter Brittin and Sarah. If they had there first child in 1903, I was hoping they would be on the 1901 census as a married couple but I can't find them.

I also thought I should be able to find them as single people on 1891 or 1881 but again no luck.

I have found a possible 1871 census for a Herbert W Brittin aged 2, EYB 1869, son of Edward and Mary Brittin in Marylbone, London which may be him

Possible birth registration for Herbert Oct/Nov/Dec 1868 in Pancras, London

but can't find anything for Sarah Ann Adams.

Nor can I find any marriage or death records.

Any suggestions?
