Marriage Certificate - Father

On a marriage certificate in 1948, would you expect to see the word "deceased" next to the father's name if they had died? Does the lack of it indicate they are still alive? Similarly, if the father's profession says "Retired official (Gas Company)" would you expect them still to be alive?

Oh I have so much to learn!
Thanks,
Claire.

Not necessarily, I think it depends on whether the bride/groom actually mentioned that their father was deceased or whether they just gave his name and occupation.

I have certificates when the father is not recorded as deceased yet I have proof that he was!
