Hi Micheal,

I have the birth cert though which states on it that the mother registered the birth.

No, the date is definitely the same for both, 25th August 1843.

I'm swaying to the opinion that it was an error by the registrar. He wasn't the father by the way, but that would have explained the dates!!!

The twins were baptised 1 month later.

I think it is much more likely that the registrar made a mistake with one of the two dates - either the birth date or the date of registering (unless of course his father was a registrar???)

The chances of the mother being able to even get out of bed on the day of giving birth to one child, let alone two, are remote in the extreme.........

Confinenements lasted for several days.........at least.....

Could there be any doubt about the month in either date?

I have a birth certificate which states an ancestor was registered the same day he was born? He was also a twin and the birth was registered by the mother! Why would she rush off so fast to do this?

Is this unusual?

The birth happened in a small village called Newborough in Staffs in 1843.

I'm also guessing she would have had to travel to register the birth although I'm not sure what set ups they had in them days to register events.

Or could this simply be an error on the cert?
