I've found 5 possibles for my grandmother on the 1895 BMD in ancestery.co.uk. As they are all from different parts of the country, I'd like to whittle down the choice more. I know her dob precisely, is there any way I could check without sending for each of the birth certs?

Does she has siblings?

Have you placed here on the 1901 census?

This should haopefully help you whittle it down.

Best Wishes

Where was she living on the 1901 census? Surely that would help to narrow it down

What does 1901 give as her birthplace?

I was hoping that by finding her birth cert I'd find out these questions. lol

I've no idea at all where she originated from and rest of my family that are alive don't have either. As she would have only been about 5 in 1901 the census cant help me this time. She didn't marry until 1918.

The choices I have are Halifax, Islington, Oldham and Aukland.

Any ideas?

Buy her marriage cert......it will tell you her father's name and occupation.

Where did she marry?

BTW....until you get the birth cert, you only have hearsay about her actual DOB................

You need to obtain her marriage certificate to give you here father's name.

You can then do a search on her name, year of birth and father's name - this should narrow it down.

Do you know her parents names or were any siblings born after 1911? Why don't you post her details that you do have and let us have a look?

I KNOW her dob as it was the same as my youngest brother 14/10/1895 (different year of course). As I also knew her married name so I've worked back from that. She was called May Wilson and married James Gundy, which was registered in Newport 2nd quarter of 1918.

Have you located her death date?

Do you need the full date? I don't know that bit, but I'm sure I could find it. Just give me a few mins.

Robyn,

Is it the first quarter 1978, registered in Hereford? This is for a Mary Gundy not a May Gundy, did you mistype?

Just found her death - and it says her name was MARY not May!

I'll check again on ancestry for a birth! There is over 40 matches on the 1901 census!

Oh great!!!

Now I have a choice of about 12!!!

Anyone got any good ideas now? lol

Robyn,

You need the marriage certificate to move forwards or even backwards!!
