Is there a way of searching without a first name. I have a surname, a rough date and an area but with that info it won't let me search, I have to put in a first name and it won't let me use wildcards, so I am having to trawl through pages and pages. any ideas

Unfortunately, that's the way the site is set up.

freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm

or "Google" Hugh Wallis batch numbers

Select country, then county and then place. See if there is a batch of births or marriages in the right location and time scale. Click on that and then put surname in search box.

It might work.

Hi Lynda,
Not sure if this is what you are doing already but..
On the family search home page if you click on the yellow search bar at the top you are able to enter a surname and country. You aren't able to use any other search criteria other than this though.
Hope this helps Lou

Many thanks for all the replies. Have tried Hugh Wallis site, but no joy. Will just keep plodding on-again thanks
