Maidstone Prison in Kent has its own records too.

I think it depends on whether the prison still exists. If it no longer exists the records will likely have been transferred to the local Records Office.

when I asked local records office they said that the prison held the records this was Cardiff

Thanks Sam for the info.

Local papers are difficult as I live in Lancs England, but do you think the local records offices will have info on prisons?
I was thinking about the prison service, but don't know if they keep the records of ex prisoners.

You should contact the records office for the area, to see if they hold the records you need. You could also check local newspapers to see if the trial was reported.

I am trying to find some information on a relative who went to prison in Glasgow in 1933. I would like to find out why?
Does anyone know how to do this?
