If you are coming to London then I would suggest the LMA (London Metropolitan Archives) for the Lambeth records.

You can search the catalogue here....

http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/corporation/family-research/registerSearchForm.asp

If you check the home page and then Visitors Information and Before You Visit, it will give you details of where they are, opening times ect. In answer to your question, no you do not need to book and there is no charge.

I've managed to get back to 1806 and 1814 on 2 parts of my tree but now find that i need to see parish registers to get further on , has anyone had to go this route and how easy is it to get the info you need ? also do you have to make an appointment at these offices to do this and is there a charge?
Thanks for any replies, i'm making a journey to london this week to do some research and would love to know a bit more so i'm not dissappointed
