Hi on Griffiths Valuations the Poor Law Union is just a geographical area.
If you people you have been given on the other thread are yours or you suspect them to be then you have the head of the households location on around the date given at the bottom. It will tell you the County Parish and townland that the person lives in. If its in Southern Ireland you can download a map of the place they lived and using the numbers locate the exact property. (Mine are all in Northern Ireland so the maps aren't on, some of the maps can be a bit difficult to "read")

Using the information from Griffiths if you visit Proni in Belfast (or southern Ireland equivalent) you can look in the valuation books and see how long your ancestor stayed at a particular location.

...if they were in the care of the Poor Law Union, they were in the work house...therefore they had nothing. The was nothing to claim in those days. You worked to eat!

Not sure what you mean? Which record have you found this on?

Poor law union would run the local workhouse.
