Ireland 1901 & 1911 Census Project

Teresa With Irish Blood in Me Veins Report 22 Oct 2007 12:15

Information can be found on the National Archives of Ireland website...although the census records not available on line yet!

http://www.nationalarchives.ie/contactus/news.html

"The National Archives of Ireland has arranged for the digitisation, indexing and contextualisation of its most popular records, the census records for 1901 and 1911. The resulting website will contain images of the forms for each household and institution, which will be indexed by name (all names), townland/street, age and sex. On the left, you can see the household return for the Forristal family of Nottingham Street in Dublin city.

There will also be illustrated information on what life was like in Ireland in the early days of the last century. The site will be free to access, with no charge to use the indexes or view the images.

The first phase of the project, Dublin City and County 1911, is to be launched in Autumn 2007.

We had hoped to launch earlier, but rapidly changing technology has meant that we are revising the architecture of the site, and this will lead to a small delay."

Don't hold your breath though...

1911 Dublin City census was supposed to be on line October 2006 and we're still waiting!

I just hope their system is robust enough to deal with the millions of people, worldwide, who will be wanting to use this FREE facility.

I can't wait to find my Mum's family on there!

1911 Dublin City census on line for free, the rest of Dublin County and all other counties in Ireland to follow.

Go to www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ and search by name!

When you've found one that is 'yours' then click on the name and then click on

Household Return (Form A), Page 1 to see the census image.

It also tells you how long a couple have been married, how many children born alive and how many still living.
