I did the same recently, but in a Portsmouth paper.

The information I stated was from the 1901 + 1911 Census.................and I got a response from someone.

Well worth it - as was the £45 I spent to get the entry I wanted of the 1911 Census !

Good luck

I live not far from Braintree and I would agree that the Essex Chronicle would be a good one to contact, don't think many people in Braintree would read the Brentwood Gazette though, unless they happened to pick it up on the train into London!.
Go to this website:
http://www.thisisessex.co.uk/
There is a listing of papers down left hand side of page. The ones you want are the Essex Chronicle, Braintree and Witham Times (both weekly papers) possible the Essex County Standard as well, and the Gazette (an evening paper which is centred on Colchester but spreads its coverage as far as Braintree and WItham)

I want to write to a newspaper in Essex appealing for information as a relative of mine moved to Braintree probably in the 1940's. I know she had 2 young children at the time who are my mother cousins and are probably still alive. Due to the kind people on here i know the male cousin married and had children but where he is now i have no idea.

I have googled for newspapers but was wondering if anyone who lives the area knows which would be the best one to write to?
