Hi Charlotte, some areas in Ireland use both english and Irish place names, so if it's in one of these areas it might be worth thinking about!

I was lucky enough to have a place in Ireland for some of my relatives on one of the censuses, unfortunately when I googled it nothing came up! I keep trying though and somehow I will get over this brick wall!

I have the same problem with a line of my tree, unless it's on the census or parish records. Very often they've only given Ireland as place of birth there's little chance of finding this, unless someone has the same line and knows the answer.

Hi I have several branches of my family who came from Ireland to Scotland in the 1800's but Idon't know which county in Ireland any of them came from and this seems to be necessary to find out any info on there birth, marriages and so on Has anyone got any idea how to find out where they came from?

thanks Chris
