I have just found out that my 4x great grandfather was living in Lambton and was a toll gate keep presumably for Lord Lambton as is say that it was not a government toll road.

Is there any way i can find a map showing where Sunderland Gate was in Lambton c1880

Yes but getting to many hits have trawl through quite a lot but just too many with the words Sunderland and Lambton. I have founds so many website about the lambton worm and lots of general things about Lambton castle but nothing like a map or plan that would show me what i want

Try Googling Lambton Estate - a couple of hits with photos - one of the Northern entrance, one of the Eastern - may be some more

I would imagine they'd send you a copy if they have anything, for a relatively small cost.

I might try giving them a ring and see what they say
