Small islands, how far back

Lol Mick! Blue, thats amazing....Im just so fascinated by the history of the islands, I havent heard of Fetler though. Will google it in a min, its great learning something new. Bet you've got your work cut out researching those islands though! |

My sons partner's father came from Bressay in Shetland. She is a crofter (cows & sheep) and he is a crofter/seaman currently 90nm W of Shetland. She has just gone to join my wife at the island ladies craft club and left me babysitting by alarms. Craft club is the posh name for 'the fat cats club' |

That's over on the other coast and I have never been there. Drove down the coast road about 15 years ago. Might take a look at the end of our holiday due which the wife and I are due to take in the next couple of weeks. She wants to take the overnight ferry down to Aberdeen which saves a good bit of driving. Have the holiday (Yorks/Lancs/Cheshire) and then come back up the other side. Maybe go over from Holyhead to Ireland and then B&B stops up to the North and the ferry over to Stranraer. I don't tend to plan anything just do what takes my fancy on the day. |

I'd love to live on a teensy island, its always been my dream. Lucky you! We're looking at staying on the Isle of Mull next year, only for a week tho. |

I have no Scottish blood but lived here 18 years - lots of Scottish relatives now though with 2 of my offspring marrying locals - google for graemsay - read my diary - I do some looking back at island history but it seems harder with the Scottish records than using 'England & Wales' sites. Mainly as being a Tyke I don't like to pay for what may turn out to be useless certificates. |

have you traced your family? Does anyone have ancestors from small offshoot islands, like the teensy Scottish islands; and how far back have you got? Where did your folk originally come from? I've always had an affinity with the small Scottish islands, it must have been hard but cosy living on them so long ago. |
