Hi
Where would I find information on the assisted passage scheme to Australia post 1960. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Australian High Commission, I would imagine.

If you are after specific people, try the National Archives of Australia, www.naa.gov.au and go to recordsearch.

You will probably find more general policy information there too.

Thanks for that.

Found an old friend whom I went to see off at Southampton in 1965

Gave her full name, date of birth, name of ship, port and date of departure and destination.

We spent months tying stockings/tights together and we held one end and she held the other end till the boat was way out and she had to let go.

They had a band playing, very emotional especially for her Mum and Dad.

What a lovely tale Linda, thankyou.

I always dreamed of visiting the docks during that time and seeing the people embarking onto those huge ships....going to the other side of the world!...never to be seen again!...(as we thought back then....)

Never did! but saw alot of it on the television. Very emotional! All the streamers....bands playing...people crying....flowers.....crowds....

...sigh...

Then Concord came along.......there n back ina trice! lol

Hi Eric
Just a thought
My sister and I were £10 poms to Australia in 1966 and we flew out rather than come by ship.
I'm not sure where you would find records for a case like that though

Hi Eric,

Flights are also recorded on National Archives site. At a quick glance they seem to go up to early 1970's.

Do you have any idea where your relatives came to in Australia. Perhaps a search of the whitepages will help.
