Can anyone find death registations for either of the following please:
Alfred Thomas Hastings born 3rd qtr. 1885 in Bermondsey and his wife Maud Elizabeth Hastings (nee Hacking) born 3rd qtr. 1893 in Bermondsey. They were married 4th qtr. 1913 n Bermondsey.
Thanks.

Linda, that's a huge task. From your information they could've died any time between 1913 & the 1980s!

I'm afraid this is a trawl through the BMD's 1/4 by 1/4 for each year to find these deaths, bearing in mind that if Alfred died young, Maud could have remarried.

Unfortunately Ozi, I don't know anything else. I've been searching all evening but nothing

Bummer! Any children?

Ozi.

Re the work, Claire, easy 5 hrs. If Linda is already going through she'll know it takes forever.

Linda - have you tried local newspaper articles?

Linda Report 24 Oct 2007 23:58

Sorry everyone, I didn't realise it would be such a big job. Might be quicker to wait for the next Census then!!!!

Linda Report 24 Oct 2007 23:59

I've tried: Ancestry, Free BMD, LDS now this message board.

Ozi, why local newspapers? Can I do this online?

If they died in this country it should be on Ancestry but you need to search the death index 1837-1983 not the Free BMD death index 1837-1983

I did the local papers for G Grandad, it was all on film & made my eyes go funny but then so does the BMD's!
Our local library keeps all the local papers on microfilm. Often they show a death announcement but again without a year it's a big job.

I was thinking obituaries. Some newspapers have archives.

Here in Oz people are transcribing obituaries as they come into the newspapers & they're online within weeks.

Have you tried googling their names?

Ozi.

Didn't realise there was a difference. Thought the same dates would have the same info!!
Best start again

Free BMD only goes up to 1920 ish & the later bits far from complete.
I'll warn you now it's not a very nice job!
