I have been trying to find the above, with his wife Bridget. Through GR, I have met a distant cousin who has also been searching for him. Can anyone give advice on his surname, as on IGI site, I came across the baptism record on 2nd April 1781 of Robert Waggon, from East Malling, Kent. East Malling I understand is in the Chatham area.

I have seen on one site the alternative name spellings, but can't remember which one.

I am very slowly trawling through the Medway Ancestors site on City Ark to see if I can find him, but it is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Please, has anyone any ideas.

Thanks Sue, I should have said that I had the 1841 census, sorry. I just can't seem to get farther back, pity place of birth is not on the 1841 census forms, and I haven't found them on the 1851 census, which might have given a more specific place of birth..

I don't think you will find Bridget in 1851.

This looks as if it might be her death.

East Malling is much closer to Maidstone and would not come under Chatham - or the Medway towns. If he was born in East Malling you won't find him on the Cityark site.

Thanks for the advice regarding location. Really disappointed that East Malling won't be on the City Ark site. There is a Kent site which does not include the Medway towns, perhaps I can find something on there.

The BVRI discs have this christening in Bromley, Kent. Don't know how close this is to the places that you're interested in?

Robert Waghorn christened 3 Feb.1786, Bromley, Kent. Mother Mary Waghorn.

There are also 6 children of Robert & Bridget on the discs between 1803-1823, the first 2 in Gillingham, the others in Chatham. Do you have them?

Thanks for your response.

I confess my ignorance, but what does BVRI stand for, please.

I do have five of the children's names for Robert and Bridget. What I have are: George (my ancestor), Jane, Mary Ann, William and Jesse.

Bromley is in greater London, about twenty miles or so from Chatham and Gillingham, so I am not sure whether the christening is of my Robert.

I would have liked to have found Bridget's maiden name, which would have enabled me to go back another generation.

Susan, the other one on the discs is Sarah, born 27 Jun.1803, christened 26 Aug.1803, Gillingham.

BVRI is British Vital Records Index, a set of 16 cd's that you purchase from the LDS Church. They cover christenings and marriages from parish records in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Unfortunately there's no marriage of Robert & Bridget.

Thank you for the information about Sarah, which I will add to my tree. I wonder if Robert and Bridget married in a nonconformist church, or, perhaps they never married!!
