Hi,

I have only just started researching my family tree. My main reason for starting is the fact that my father and his brother were placed in care in the early forties, they were eventually split up and never saw each other again. Anyway, I have found their mothers birth certificate (should be here any day) and marriage cert (I have this) but I wanted to know the best way of searching for death certs? What do you do if you have no idea of when they died...Is it just a case of going through each year. Also I don't know if she was still married or which name she was using??

does your father know why he and his brother were put into care. maybe if a parent died we could find a death ref.

plus as she was born 1904 she would have been in her early forties when theywere put into the home

From what I can gather from his Barnados records, his mother was unable to care for them due to mental/physical problems. The father does not seem to be mentioned, so I thought maybe that had something to do with it?

My dad seems to remember seeing her when he was slightly older, maybe 7-8yrs old but his recollection of that time is not great so I can't be definite.

As for your original question, it is just a case of sitting down and going through the Ancestry death records quarter by quarter, starting from presumably 1940. Very time consuming and as you say, she may have remarried at some stage

Wow! Thank you all so much, I had some of the ubove information but this has filled in gaps for me. The Rear side is allot easier to find as it less common than Moore I suppose, that is proving harder. I have started on the death records so fingers crossed!

Once you get her birth certificate, you can do a search on birth date from 1984 onwards. Also between 1969 and 84, it should list her DOB
