Margaret. Thank you so much I have been looking for the best part of 2 hours trying to find them. Didn't find them on the Genealogist site. Teaches me to look at both Ancestry and Genalogist.
Thanks again Di

Thanks both Gwyneth and Margaret.
I can't find either Wm or Martha on any census for 1871. I know Wm is alive as a widower in 1881 census. Any ideas please?

Don't forget that they rounded down the ages in 1841 to the nearest 5. His age is given as 30 so he could have been 30-34.

Ok
Sorted it. William in 1841 is aged 30 and a shoe maker so 1851 must be wrong.

Gwyneth and Reg
Thank you both. I now have a query about 1851 census as William Henry's parents are in Hitchin and the read out states. Wm 24 head and Martha 41 wife, daughter Martha 24. ...... However when I read the census direct I think Wm is 44 and daughter Martha is 14 not 24. Can anyone confirm please.

I read it as Tailor....there are others with that occupation on the same page.

This is one of the occupations regularly mistranscribed.
We have had problems with farmers and farriers too.

Hi Reg
Thank you. I just needed confirmation. My eyesight even with glasses is not what it was.

On looking at census for William Henry Crawley in 1871 census for Kent he is aged 29 and a sailor in 'the Genalogist' site. However in 1881 he is a Tailor! I think the 1871 is transcribed incorrectly as the writing of S is not the same when I look at how Scholar is wriiten. Hope this makes sens. lol
