Hi,

I have now ordered (or looked up) several certificates registered in St Ives, Huntingdon, Cambs. The Volume number has always been 3b.

I have now found two rellies also registered in St Ives but the volume number is 14. Can this be right? Don't want to end up ordering the wrong one if I can help it.

Thanks

The vol number changes when the registration district is Abolished and succeeded by another district

eg

ST. IVES REGISTRATION DISTRICT
Registration County : Huntingdonshire (1837-1965); Huntingdon & Peterborough (1965-74)..
Created : 1.7.1837.
Abolished : 1.1.1968 (succeeded by Huntingdon district).
Sub-districts : St. Ives; Somersham; Swavesey; Warboys.
GRO volumes : XIV (1837-51); 3b (1852-1946); 4B (1946-67).

so it would depend on what year you are searching

These must be pre 1852 certs.

The GRO District volume numbers for Huntingdonshire are:

1837 to 1852 - Vol. 14
1852 to 1946 - Vol. 3b
1946 to 1974 - Vol. 4B
1974 to date - Vol 9.

Thanks Reg and Roy,

Up to now, I have been looking at events after 1852 whih explains the 3b. I'm beginning to get further back now, hence the 14.

Thanks for clearing it up. I'll cough up my next 7 quid then!
