hi Rebekah,

if you have your grandfathers regiment and service number then you could get in touch with historical disclosures at
Army personnel centre,
civil secretariat,
historical discloures,
mail point 400,
kentigern house,
65 Brown street, glasgow G2 8EX
if you write to them asking for any documents in relation to your grandfathers service record they will send you the forms when you return these you will need to send a cheque for £30. you can down load the forms to save time from NA web site.
i have just received my grandfathers service records and i must say it was worth the money and the wait ( it took 3 months to come they do advise of a wait it can take up to 6 months) but it was full of info from when he enlisted to his capture at dunkirk he spent 4 years as a POW it gave a physical description of him and a character testomany i dont know if all records are that full it might just be pot luck!
any way hope this helps
good luck i would be interested to hear how you get on.
regards
elaine

To find his service records, if they have survived, you would need to go to National Archives, Kew, or get someone to go for you. To find out about his regiment, you could google the name of it and that should lead you to the regimental museum. They would be able to give you some general info, but unlikely to have much on the man himself. Regiments.org will also have info on the regiment.

I have just found a relative who died in the 1st world war. I have found out his service number and regiment.

Who can I contact to find out any more information about him and his regiment. I have been onthe national archives but that did not have very much.

Any help greatly appricated.
